The Doomsday Clock is a symbol that represents the likelihood of a man-made global catastrophe. However, the psychological pressure (tension) humans feel is not linear. As time approaches zero (midnight), the perceived threat increases exponentially.
To mathematically represent this phenomenon, we use an inverse proportionality model anchored at a specific baseline.
Under this model, the impact of losing 1 minute is dynamic. For example, losing 1 minute when the clock is at 20 minutes increases the score slightly (+5). However, losing 1 minute when the clock is at 3 minutes triggers a massive spike in the tension score (+167), reflecting the critical urgency.
